INJURED – 27 June 2009 -- Seven Mile Beach, Gerroa, New South Wales, Australia – surfer attacked

Les Wade, 52, was bitten below the knee by a shark while surfing at Seven Mile Beach, Gerroa, New South Wales, Australia. The incident happened around 8.45am on Saturday 27 June 2009.

He said he thought is was a two-metre bronze whaler.

“I felt something push me from behind, I felt a pressure on my leg, I thought it was another surfer, I turned around to say, 'What are you doing', and then I saw the back of a shark," he told media.

It was believed he was helped to shore by fellow surfers.

He was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital and received 50 stitches to close 12 separate puncture wounds.

He was reported in a stable condition.
